How Should a Cycling Jersey Fit? Your Guide to Finding the Right Size

Everybody wants their kit to fit well and feel good. The tricky part is that "the right fit" means something different for a race jersey, a base layer, and a pair of bib shorts. This guide walks you through how each piece is meant to sit on the body, and the two quick tools that take the guesswork out of choosing your size.

The quick answer

A cycling jersey should fit closer than a normal top: snug enough that it doesn't flap in the wind, but not so tight it restricts you. How close depends on the style. Our Pro jerseys are cut race-tight, our Classic jerseys are close but all-day comfortable, and our more relaxed pieces sit further from the body. The fastest way to get it right is to use the What's My Size tool on any product page and check that garment's size chart.

First, two things worth knowing

There's no universal size between brands. A medium from one label can fit like a large from another, so please don't assume your usual size will carry over. It's always worth taking a minute to check before you order.

Measuring beats guessing. Here's a great trick: take a cycling jersey you already love the fit of, lay it flat, and measure a few key spots, across the chest just under the armhole, the front zipper length, and the back length from the collar to the hem. Compare those numbers to the size chart on the product page and you can basically duplicate the magic of your favourite jersey.

The easiest way: the What's My Size tool

Every product page has a What's My Size tool, and it's the single best way to land on the right size. Pop in your details and body measurements, and it recommends the best size for that specific garment, taking its particular cut and fabric into account. Because a Pro jersey and a relaxed jersey fit so differently, a tool that's tuned to each product beats a one-size-fits-all guess every time.

Right next to it, you'll find the size chart for that exact garment. Click through for the full flat measurements if you want to compare against your own kit. Between the two, you've got everything you need to order with confidence.

How each piece is meant to fit

Here's the plain-language version of how our main styles sit on the body:

  • Classic jerseys: close-fitting and made from high-stretch fabric, cut to sit firm so they breathe and move with you. Comfortable enough for all day, snug enough to look sharp. This is the fit most riders reach for.
  • Pro Performance jerseys: our race fit. Cut aerodynamic and worn skin-tight, with no flappy fabric to slow you down. These are designed to be snug and tend to fit small, so they're for riders who want that fast, second-skin feel.
  • MTB and gravel styles: roomier and more casual by design, built for trails, longer adventures, and cafe or pub stops without feeling racy.
  • Base layers: meant to be tight, a true second skin. That close fit is what lets them wick sweat off your body, so snug is correct here, not a sign to size up.
  • Bib shorts and shorts: these should feel supportive and compressive, hugging the legs with the chamois held firmly in place. A loose pair of bibs won't do its job, so close and secure is the goal.
  • Winter long-sleeve jerseys: cut with a performance fit but designed to layer, so there's room for a base layer underneath without going baggy.
  • Jackets: lightweight and cut to sit over a jersey, so they're athletic rather than loose, with just enough room for what's underneath.

When you're in doubt

Our close-fitting jerseys are exactly that, close, and some riders find they come up smaller than expected. If you're between sizes, unsure, or you simply prefer a touch more breathing room, sizing up is a safe bet. And if you want certainty before you commit, the What's My Size tool and the on-page chart will steer you right.

Get the fit dialled in and everything changes: the kit breathes better, moves better, and feels like it was made for you. Which, more or less, it was.
